Yara Uusikaupunki

Planneri Group has worked in close cooperation with Yara International’s Uusikaupunki site for over 30 years. Planneri’s designers support a wide range of needs from small maintenance-related tasks to larger project work.

“When new projects start at the Yara Uusikaupunki plants or equipment is renewed, related design work is required. We have also delivered electrical and automation design, instrumentation, and mechanical engineering for Yara,” says Arto Sotka, Partner at Planneri Group.

Planneri’s designers often work on site at the Yara Uusikaupunki plants.

“We are at the core of Yara’s partner network. That reflects the strong trust built over a long-term relationship. Sometimes design needs arise quickly from projects or maintenance,” Sotka explains.

Planneri is also involved in annual maintenance shutdowns. Planneri’s safety specialist supports the shutdown project as an HSE supervisor, from pre-planning through to post-evaluation.

“Safety is extremely important for Yara. Their safety mindset is highly advanced,” Sotka adds.

“Cooperation with Planneri has been smooth, and it is essential for us that our partners place a strong emphasis on safety,” says Lauri Heimala, Plant Director at the Yara Uusikaupunki site.

Annual shutdowns involve a large number of maintenance and modification tasks, but the production interruptions are kept as short as possible. The scope of work is significant, as the Uusikaupunki site includes four production plants and a power plant. During shutdowns, several hundred subcontractor employees are typically working on site.

The Yara Uusikaupunki site includes two nitric acid plants, two fertiliser plants, and a power plant. The main products are NPK fertilisers for agriculture and nitric acid used as a raw material for fertilisers and for industrial applications. The site’s deep-water port enables significant fertiliser exports.
